2014 Survey: Guess what devices are being used to view porn and how many install programs or apps to enhance or block Internet porn?

LYNCHBURG, Va., Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Because viewing pornography is sweeping across America like a tsunami, a new survey was conducted to determine what devices are used to view porn and how often people install programs or apps to either enhance of block Internet porn. Although cell phones provide the most instant access to porn, when asked which device they most prefer to use to watch porn, two-thirds (64%) of men say that they would still choose a computer over a cell phone. Even for men 18 to 23 years old, cell phones are a distant second choice at 22%. If access to porn wasn't already easy enough, there are many computer programs and cell phone apps designed to make porn viewing even easier. Nearly one-third (32%) of men between 24 and 30 admit that they have installed such a computer program or cell phone app to enhance pornography viewing. Those and other numbers are documented in a new survey by Proven Men Ministries (www.ProvenMen.org) and conducted by Barna Group among a nationally representative sample of 1,000 U.S. adults nationwide.

"With easy access to porn via the Internet, a huge segment of our younger generation is viewing pornography at staggering rates and many are becoming addicted to porn," according to Joel Hesch, who sponsored the survey and is the founder of Proven Men Ministries.

The findings from this survey correlate to data from other questions within the same survey, which found for men 18 to 30 years old that 8 in 10 (79%) view pornography at least monthly, and 1 in 3 (33%) think they might be addicted to pornography or are unsure if they are addicted. In addition, the survey also revealed that two-thirds (63%) of men admit that they choose to risk losing their jobs in order to look at porn while at work.

The survey also shows that over one-half (54%) of men age 24 to 30 have erased their Internet browsing history to hide their porn usage. "Pornography is addictive and many feel trapped with nowhere to turn. Many feel pangs of guilt and shame and are deathly afraid of getting caught or found out that they watch porn," says Hesch.

Hesch adds, "Just because men are watching porn with more ease and frequency does not mean that many don't want to stop. The new survey revealed that 30% of men ages 24 to 30 have installed a filter or porn blocking program on their computer or cell phone in an attempt to limit access to porn."

"However," Hesch warns, "porn filters or blocks don't address stop the root issues that drive a person to want to escape into the fantasy world of pornography. What they need is a safe person to openly discuss issues in their lives and provide them with encouragement and accountability."
