2015 Canada Winter Games get up close and personal with new mobile site developed by OPIN
OTTAWA, Feb. 2, 2015 /CNW/ - OPIN is proud to offer the 2015 Canada Winter Games with a new, customized mobile website designed to facilitate access to and enjoyment of Canada's largest multi-sport and cultural event for youth by providing the most relevant information at your fingertips.
"Smartphone technology has opened up new opportunities to personalize large sporting events and tailor the experience to individual fans," noted OPIN CEO, Chris Smith. "We have leveraged that technology so participants and spectators can quickly and easily access the facilities to devote more of their attention and energy on the athletes and the impressive journeys they have taken to get there. From February 13 to March 1, 2015, Prince George and Northern British Columbia will play host to 2,400 athletes, 1,000 coaches and officials, up to 4,500 volunteers, hundreds of media and thousands of visitors.
"We opted for a mobile site instead of native apps to ensure the information is available to all visitors in a consistent and accessible way. We developed the site with 2015 Games participants and visitors in mind," said Stuart Ballantyne, 2015 Canada Winter Games CEO. "With the majority of the population utilizing smartphones today, we wanted to give people the opportunity to have easy access to 2015 Games information all in one place, wherever they go, and we're thrilled to work with OPIN Software on yet another innovative project for the 2015 Canada Winter Games."
The new Games mobile-only site, which is tailored to the latest smartphones, was designed by Adrian Rylski, OPIN's Web Designer. It allows users to buy tickets, navigate the Prince George, B.C. grounds as well as find specific venues and events - amongst a number of other helpful functions. It includes cultural schedules, what to do and eat, maps, time and weather. It also features instant scores, provides medal standings and profiles all the athletes attending from all over Canada. "I tried to create a customized experience for both the athletes and the spectators," explained Rylski. "The Canada Winter Games happen only every other year (alternating between summer and winter) so I want people to make the most of them. I sincerely hope this site helps to achieve that."
OPIN has been a proud supporter of the 2015 Canada Winter Games from the outset, developing a digital timer to countdown the days to the official start of the games, a mobile app that emulates the Northern Lights to provide a beautiful and moving engagement tool for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and most recently, the new mobile site.
