2015 Domestic Violence Scholarship Applications Called For Again by Laubacher & Co.
Laubacher & Co. is now receiving applications for its 2015 Domestic Violence Law Firm Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a qualified victim of domestic violence, and applications are due by July 31.
CLEVELAND, May 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 9,000 people are victims of some form of domestic violence every day in the United States. In an effort to assist every child, teen and adult who has endured this type of abuse, Laubacher & Co. is continuing their effort to curtail domestic violence and open up conversations about what domestic violence is and the resources available to every person who is or has been a victim of such an act. The law firm of Laubacher & Co., a Cleveland-based family law firm specializing in divorce and domestic violence issues, has announced that it is once again awarding its Domestic Violence Scholarship. The last scholarship was awarded in October 2014 as the month of October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The success and overwhelming participation in the program helped to put into perspective the seriousness of what is happening in Cleveland communities and throughout the U.S. "There is an urgent need for solutions, resources and remedies to help those who have been victimized," says the firm's founding attorney, Eric Laubacher. "And as an Ohio family law practice, our first priority is to provide legal assistance and education in all areas of the concentration - including domestic violence."
Domestic violence is a far-reaching problem. Estimates indicate that as many as 3 million women in the United States are the victims of domestic violence every single year, and men are sometimes victims as well. Children, whether abused themselves or witnesses to the abuse of a parent, are also victims of this highly personal crime.
Those interested in applying may download the scholarship form from the Laubacher & Co. website. Applicants must submit the form along with a one-page typed essay on how domestic violence has affected them and a copy of their high school or college transcripts. The $1,000 scholarship can be used for college, graduate, or law school tuition costs and is available to applicants attending or enrolled in an accredited university for the fall of 2015, who are U.S. citizens, and who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their high school or college work.
"We recognize that victims of domestic violence must work incredibly hard to move forward," said attorney Eric R. Laubacher, founder of Laubacher & Co. "We want to show our support in many ways, including this scholarship. We also want to encourage those suffering at the hands of an abuser to get help, and we never charge to talk to someone about the legal options available to them."
Those interested in applying for the scholarship must submit their applications, essays, and transcripts by July 31, 2015. The winner of the scholarship will be announced on or around August 10, 2015.
