2016 Best Online Programs Rankings Released by U.S. News & World Report
The trusted authority on higher education provides students with valuable information about the nation's top distance learning programs
TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report has released the 2016 edition of its Best Online Programs rankings. The report evaluates more than 1,200 web-based degree programs and lists them in a searchable directory that is available on both USNews.com and USNewsUniversityDirectory.com.
The rankings are divided into eight categories: Best Online Bachelor's Programs, Best Online Graduate Business Programs, Best Online Graduate Computer Information Technology Programs, Best Online Graduate Criminal Justice Programs, Best Online Graduate Education Programs, Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs, Best Online MBA Programs and Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs.
U.S. News ranks distance learning at the program level rather than the institutional level. This is because different programs within the same institution often have separate admissions standards and tuition rates. Additionally, a given school may be strong in some disciplines and weak in others. As a result, the program-level data is frequently more valuable to students.
Perhaps most importantly, all programs are evaluated on data specific to their online offerings. So a school known for its exceptional on-campus graduate engineering program cannot rely on that reputation to influence the rank of its online graduate engineering program. The web-based course of study is assessed separately according to the quality of its own classes, instructors, support services and other criteria.
"With the 2016 Best Online Programs rankings, U.S. News provides the information that is most relevant to the experience of distance learning students," said Frank Pipolo, associate vice president of digital marketing optimization for U.S. News University Connection. "They can be confident the programs that earn a high rank provide a solid education and valuable degree in an online format. These are the top web-based offerings in the nation, assessed on their own merits."
In addition to the rankings, the U.S. News 2016 Best Online Programs report also provides prospective and enrolled students with a searchable directory to explore factors such as tuition, program offerings and online services offered.
