26 Canada UPSers Join "Circle of Honor" For Driving Safely For 25 Years
ELITE UPS DRIVER GROUP GROWS TO MORE THAN 7,800 WORLDWIDE
MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 23, 2015 /CNW/ - UPS (NYSE:UPS) recently announced the induction of 26 Canadian drivers into its elite "Circle of Honor." The group, in a class by themselves, has achieved 25 years of safe driving.
"I am pleased to recognize and congratulate the UPS drivers who have achieved the milestone of 25 years of no-at-fault accidents," said The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport. "Ensuring goods can be delivered efficiently and safely is a priority for our Government and UPS is an excellent example of corporate leadership in this area. Every day, Circle of Honor drivers deliver on their commitment to UPS customers while making the streets safer for those around them."
Collectively, the 7,878 worldwide UPS drivers have logged more than 8.5 billion kilometers and more than 221,000 years of safe driving through their careers. That's enough kilometers to travel to Mars and back 36 times.
In addition to the new inductees, UPS Canada drivers Robert Avis, Doug Coxon, and Karl Peter reached a milestone of 38 years of safe driving. All three drivers have been recognized as Canada's longest serving employees and members of the prestigious Circle of Honor who have delivered millions of packages throughout their career with no-at-fault accidents.
UPS drivers worldwide are among the safest on the roads, logging more than 4.8 billion kilometers per year and delivering more than 4 billion packages safely. Before ever making a delivery, all UPS drivers are taught safe driving methods through the company's defensive driving platform and the training continues throughout their careers.
"Safety is engrained in our culture and road safety is an important part of how we operate every day at UPS," said former UPS driver and now President, UPS Canada, Michael Tierney. "Our training helps ensure our drivers master safe driving methods, but it is their dedication to safety that truly sets them apart."
UPS extends its safe driving expertise to the communities it serves through UPS Road Code® training, a teen safe driving program available in Canada and internationally. Taught by UPS volunteers, the program is available to teens between the ages of 13 and 18. To date, more than 20,000 teenagers have participated. The program has been extended to the UK, Germany and China, and further international expansion is planned. The four-session training regimen is based on UPS's safe driving methods. UPS Road Code training is offered in Canada in conjunction with Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada and overseas in four countries with various youth development organizations thanks to $9.9 million in contributions from The UPS Foundation since the program's inception.
