2600 Netprotect(R) LLINs Distributed During the JCI Nothing But Nets Race

KOLDING, Denmark, Feb. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bestnet Europe Ltd. today announced the successful completion of the distribution of 2600 donated Netprotect® Long Lasting Insecticide Incorporated Mosquito Nets (LLINs) during the JCI Nothing But Nets Budapest to Bamako Great African Run.

On January 15, 2011, 190 teams of motorists, including six Junior Chamber International (JCI) teams, set off from Budapest, Hungary as a part of the 2011 Budapest to Bamako Great African Run. Prior to the race, and with the intent to raise $100,000 to send 10,000 bednets to sub-Saharan Africa to save lives, JCI had designated Nothing But Nets as the official charity of the incredible event.

As dust settled along the route, winners emerged, but they were not the ones to receive the true prize. The real winners were the thousands of sub-Saharan Africans who received the over 2600 Netprotect® LLINs donated by Bestnet and distributed along the route.

JCI teams from Belgium, Hungary and Latvia made stops at local JCI Organizations in Italy, Monaco, Catalonia, Morocco and Mali along their journey and met with members of the media, business leaders and more than 500 JCI members.

"This was truly a tremendous experience," said JCI Hungary member Zsolt Feher. "Even though we're exhausted from the inter-continental race, we're all so excited about the nets that we distributed and the joy on the faces of the people we helped, it was all worth it."

After the unique and grueling course which took racers from Budapest, Hungary through Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal, the race ended in Bamako, Mali, where the teams were greeted by African drummers and dancers and the Malian Minister of Tourism as they crossed the finish line.

Despite mechanical issues and a challenging course, of the 120 teams that crossed the finish line on January 30th, five JCI teams finished in the Touring class and the team from JCI Szeged, Hungary placed second overall in the Competition class!
