28th Annual BI-LO Charity Classic Raises $4,920,622 for Non-Profits Across Southeast

GREENVILLE, S.C., June 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As the 28th annual BI-LO Charity Classic came to a close on Monday evening, BI-LO Charities announced that this year's tournament raised a total of $4,920,622 to aid non-profit organizations across Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee which benefit BI-LO Charities' three key initiatives:  children's needs, education and hunger relief.

The BI-LO Charity Classic event took place over a period of three days.  The weekend kicked off with a First Tee Invitational tournament on Friday, June 3, at Pebble Creek Golf Club, with young golfers from Greenville and Spartanburg.  Festivities ramped up Saturday evening, June 4, with a 60's era themed seated dinner at the Hartness Estate for top sponsors.  Tournament participants and guests were treated to a Pairings Party and Auction held Sunday, June 5, at the Hartness Estate. The BI-LO Charity Classic began in 1984 as a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and has grown to be the largest one-day charity golf tournament in the United States.  During the past 27 years the tournament has raised more than $53,000,000 to support hundreds of charities throughout BI-LO's four-state operating area of South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.
