7 CONSOL Energy Operations Earn West Virginia Safety Awards
Brock Recognized as Coal Safety Leader; 2 Robinson Run Employees Earn Heroism Awards
PITTSBURGH, June 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Seven CONSOL Energy (NYSE: CNX) mining operations in West Virginia were named recipients of safety awards in May during the 28th annual State Council meeting of the Holmes Safety Association in Roanoke, W. Va.
The awards recognized each operation and its employees for their commitment to and record of safety excellence.
Additionally, CONSOL Energy Coal Operations Chief Operating Officer Jimmy Brock was recognized as a coal safety leader in West Virginia. The award is presented annually to coal leaders who contribute to the prevention of injury and fatalities in mining operations. The prestigious award was first introduced in 1985.
CONSOL Energy operations winning West Virginia State Mine Safety Awards included the Shoemaker Mine in Marshall County, W. Va.; Blacksville No. 2 in Wana, W. Va.; Fola Surface Mine and its Peach Orchard Preparation Plant, both located in Bickmore, W. Va.; and its Peg Fork Surface Mine, located in Naugatuck, W. Va.
CONSOL Energy's Fola operations employees were also presented with an award of excellence recognizing them for having worked safely from December 29, 2009 to March 31, 2011, recording 1,738,800 hours without a lost time accident.
Two additional CONSOL Energy operations – Little Eagle Coal Company in Bickmore, W. Va.; and Central Repair Shop in Monongah, W. Va. -- earned Joseph A. Holmes Safety Awards, formerly called the Pacesetter awards, recognizing their safety records.
Certificates of honor were awarded to Jeremy D. Rowan and Casey A Short, from Robinson Run No. 95 Mine, in Wetzel County, W. Va., for heroism recognizing the extreme care and preventative actions they took when discovering a fire on a piece of underground diesel equipment. The award recognized their professional dedication to the health and safety of fellow miners.
The Holmes Safety Association was founded in 1916 and recognizes mining operations on an annual basis for their safety excellence. The association's members include representatives from state and federal government agencies, mining organizations and labor unions.
