TORONTO, Nov. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - My Class Needs Foundation (MCN) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Canadian crowdfunding website. Created to improve the educational experience of JK-12 students in Canadian schools, MyClassNeeds.ca connects classrooms in need with donors who want to support them.
The crowdfunding platform features Canadian classroom projects from JK to grade 12 that cover a wide array of subjects and needs: from electronic scales for a science class in Saskatchewan to screen printing equipment for an alternative school program in Ontario.
"We've largely used word of mouth to engage educators, so the number of requests we've had from teachers has been overwhelming," said Program Director, Danijel Margetic. "Even prior to launch we were receiving new proposals every day."
"The volume of requests is not surprising", added Interim Executive Director Dr. Michael Simmonds, "considering the high-level of need."
The MyClassNeeds website provides each classroom project a webpage that features a detailed description of its need as well as a detailed cost breakdown. Individuals from across Canada and beyond can donate to the project(s) of their choice. "It's important that donors know exactly where their donations are going," said Dr. Simmonds.
"The real power of MyClassNeeds lies in leveraging the power of networks" said Mr. Margetic. "Every project page features tools that let visitors spread the word about the projects they like. We know generosity and support extends beyond dollars and cents. Spreading the word can be extremely important for classrooms that have limited resources."
