BROOKLYN, N.Y., June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Wall Street Journal reports that the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative America (CGI America) was a major success. The meeting is said to have resulted in over 50 new initiatives, which are collectively expected to create 32,000 new jobs while filling over half a million currently vacant positions. In total, these initiatives are estimated at over one billion dollars. Abake Assongba, the founder of the non-profit organization Abake's Foundation, is ecstatic about this outcome. She believes that the proactive efforts of the event's participants reveal the potential to create real change in the world.
CGI America was attended by a wide variety of participants, including business professionals, non-profit representatives, and government leaders. Attendees developed the 50 initiatives, called Commitments to Action, which outline specific plans targeted at economic challenges within the United States. These challenges range from job creation to clean energy to STEM education to housing recovery, among others.
In addition to the previously mentioned successes, including job creation, these initiatives are expected to provide a positive impact on almost four million Americans. It is estimated that approximately 68,000 Americans will gain better access to financial services, 117,000 will benefit from improved job training, and 12,000 will experience improved access to healthcare. Furthermore, $84 million will be invested in green initiatives, which will save approximately 760 million kilowatt hours of energy.
"This year's CGI America participants have formed creative partnerships and come up with inventive strategies to accelerate employment, start new businesses, and prepare Americans to take the jobs that are open in the new U.S. economy," reported President Clinton. "From nearly $176 million of new capital that will go to small or medium enterprises, to the nearly 150,000 students who will gain access to STEM education opportunities, this year's meeting has demonstrated the important advances we can make when working together towards a shared prosperity."
"It is very exciting to see President Clinton's efforts to create a greater vision and direction for the next generation of non-profit organizations," commented Abake Assongba. "It is about time that we clear our minds and focus on the solutions that will eliminate our fears of the present and embrace positive advancements."
