Abanaki Oil Skimmers Provide Lowest-Cost Method for Groundwater Remediation
CLEVELAND, Nov. 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Abanaki Corporation offers a cost-effective way to remove hydrocarbon contamination from groundwater without pumps.
Engineers in industrial settings have, for many years, valued oil skimmers as the lowest cost way to remove hydrocarbons from wastewater. Food processing plants, the metals industry, machining firms, and utilities have all used skimmers with great success for wastewater treatment. Recently, Abanaki has modified its products for remediation of groundwater. The skimmer's ability to get into tight spaces and remove relatively large amounts of oils and other hydrocarbons lends itself perfectly to groundwater remediation.
Oil skimmers surpass traditional pump-and-treat systems that involve placing into the well a bailer, pump, or similar object that lifts contaminated water above ground for treatment. An oil skimmer eliminates the need to treat the water by removing only the hydrocarbons from the well.
Abanaki's PetroXtractor® belt skimmer is designed for groundwater remediation via existing monitoring wells or remediation wells at depths up to 100 feet regardless of fluctuating water levels. Hydrocarbon-attracting belts are specifically designed for each type of contaminant: diesel, fuel, gasoline, LNAPLs, DNAPLs and heavy weathered oils. The PetroXtractor removes up to 12 gph of oil from water and can be installed in well casings as small as 2 inches inside diameter. It elevates skimmed oil 100 feet or more for discharge into a user-supplied 55-gallon drum. For more information on the PetroXtractor visit http://www.abanaki.com/133.
Other Abanaki oil skimmer models, such as the Oil Grabber® Model 8 belt skimmer and Oil Viper tube skimmer, are ideal for use in trenches and ponds. Solar powered units are also available which make oil skimming a portable, cost-effective solution in applications that have no electric power on site.
