Aberdeen Continues Commitment To Global Financial Literacy

PHILADELPHIA, May 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Aberdeen Asset Management Inc. ("Aberdeen") has enhanced its commitment to improving financial literacy with the launch of a financial literacy microsite and a new "What is Money?" video series to increase awareness and engagement.

"Understanding how money and investing works remains a complex topic for children and adults alike. As an investment manager, we believe Aberdeen has a responsibility to the ongoing financial literacy of students of all ages," said Gary Marshall, Head of Americas at Aberdeen. "We are now in our fourth year of the program and are excited to be helping kids navigate their way toward financial literacy."

Aberdeen worked with the Warren Enskat Group and New York University to create a short video series in hopes of starting the conversation with youth on financial literacy. The first short film "What is Money?"– looks at the idea of money and value. The video series will explore the financial fundamentals of savings, credit and investments.

Aberdeen has been involved in financial literacy initiatives for several years and is actively taking steps to expand the financial literacy program within its local and national communities in fun, new and engaging ways.

Since 2011, the asset manager has fostered financial literacy and professional development through engaging, hands-on partnerships with high schools across the US. Through its sponsorship of the "Knowledge@Wharton High School Investment Challenge," high school students gain access to an innovative and real-time securities trading platform, which provides real-world context and mentorship from Aberdeen's investment managers and other employees.

A new initiative is a partnership with Operation Hope for "Banking on Our Future" (BOOF). Aberdeen participated in Operation Hope's "BOOF for a Day" program that took place on April 25, 2014. Aberdeen employees led workshops on budgeting, credit and investment basics at a Philadelphia high school.
