Abrams Eye Institute Introduces Blade-Free Laser Cataract Eye Surgery to Southern Nevada
LAS VEGAS, June 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Jack Abrams of Abrams Eye Institute recently performed the first blade-free, cataract eye surgery in Southern Nevada with the revolutionary LenSx laser. Dr. Jack Abrams is the most experienced blade-free, laser cataract eye surgeon in the valley.
Cataract surgery is among the most commonly performed eye care procedures, with over three million procedures performed annually in the United States. Without the LenSx laser, surgeons perform multiple steps manually with blades. Now, Abrams Eye Institute is the first and most experienced facility to offer improved precision with the first FDA approved femtosecond cataract laser.
"Laser cataract surgery, not to be confused with Lasik surgery, is the most state of the art technology available to patients," said Dr. Abrams. "We are proud to be the first to offer this exceptional service to Las Vegas residents, and ultimately improve patient outcomes."
Dr. Abrams made medical history in 2009, when he performed a rare juvenile corneal transplant on Mia Johnson, age 6. Mia was legally blind in her right eye because of scarring on her cornea. It was rare, because it was the only the second operation of its type performed in Las Vegas in the last five year time period.
Less than 65 LenSx lasers are in use in the United States, including Dr. Abrams', according to Alcon Laboratories Corp. in Fort Worth, Texas, which provides the widest spectrum of eye care products across the nation. Dr. Abrams has been certified on the use of the LenSx laser since February 2012 and performed numerous procedures in California before introducing the LenSx laser to Las Vegas. He has performed over 10,000 surgical procedures and believes the precision of this new laser greatly improves the results of his surgeries.
