Abtech Holdings Adds Former Maryland Governor and Former Secretary of the Army to its Strategic Advisory Board
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Abtech Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: ABHD) ("AbTech"), a full-service environmental technologies and engineering firm addressing issues of water pollution and contamination, is proud to announce the appointment of Governor Parris N. Glendening, former governor of Maryland, and Dr. Francis J. Harvey, who served as 19th Secretary of the Army, to its Advisory Board, joining Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Congressman James Saxton and Governor Edward G. Rendell.
Governor Glendening served as governor of Maryland from 1995-2003. Prior to serving as governor, he was elected for three terms as County Executive of Prince George's County, a county adjacent to Washington DC with 850,000 residents. Governor Glendening served as the President of the Maryland Association of Counties, the Chair of the National Association of County Executives, the President of the Council of State Governments and the Chairman of the National Governors' Association. Currently, Governor Glendening is President of Smart Growth America's Leadership Institute, advising state and local governments on smart growth, transit and sustainability policies and practices. The Governor also most recently was named as Executive Advisor to the American Society for Public Administration and as an Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects. He taught political science at the University of Maryland for 27 years and authored two books, Controversy of State and Local Political Systems and Pragmatic Federalism, and over 100 articles and conference papers. Governor Glendening received a doctorate in Government and Politics from Florida State University.
Dr. Harvey was appointed the 19th Secretary of the Army by former president George W. Bush, serving from 2004-2007 and overseeing a $200 billion budget. Dr. Harvey retired as the Chief Operating Officer of the Industries and Technology Group for Westinghouse Electric Corporation (Westinghouse), capping a 28-year career with the company. During his tenure with Westinghouse, he served in several leadership positions, including President of Government and Environmental Services. He has served on several corporate boards, two of which as chairman. Dr. Harvey most recently served as Chairman of the Board of BPL Global, a leading smart grid company. Dr. Harvey earned a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science from the University of Notre Dame and a Doctorate in Metallurgy and Material Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania.
Commenting on Governor Glendenings' and Dr. Harvey's appointments, Glenn Rink, AbTech's President and CEO, said, "With a marquee contract in hand and as a first mover with a cost-effective solution to address a newly-focused environmental contamination problem, AbTech is beginning to receive high level support from notable individuals in a position to champion our capability. Maryland has long been one of the leading States to adopt environmental standards and represents a strong market opportunity for AbTech as the historically "unfunded mandate" status of stormwater regulations have transitioned to being funded through a state-mandated, county-implemented, stormwater utility. Governor Glendenings has been a very important contributor to the State's efforts and we are grateful for his attention and support. Similarly, as we begin to consider strategies to expand our reach, the military and heavy industry have always been on our Radar. With Dr. Harvey's extensive background in material sciences, environment and government, we should have a valuable perspective on future productive growth opportunities through the eyes of a high level military and industry specialist."
