AbTech Named 2012 Technology Innovator at Third Annual World Shale Oil & Gas Awards
Natural Gas Industry Selects AbTech's Produced Water Pre-Treatment System as "Technological Breakthrough of the Year"
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AbTech Holdings, Inc. (OTCQB: ABHD) ("AbTech" or the "Company"), a developer and manufacturer of patented innovative environmental technologies addressing issues of water pollution and contamination, announced today that it has been honored with the Third Annual World Shale Oil & Gas Award for Technological Innovator of 2012.
Presented in partnership with the American Gas Association and International Gas Union, the Third Annual World Shale Oil & Gas Summit is North America's premier event for senior level decision makers and technical professionals from the international shale oil and gas industry. This year's event is being held on September 18 – 21 in Houston, Texas. As part of the annual event, the shale industry is invited to nominate companies for three awards—Technological Innovator, International Pioneer, and Community Engagement Leader. Winners are chosen by a selection committee comprised of industry leaders and winners are honored at an exclusive awards dinner, hosted this year by BHP Billiton on September 19 at the Petroleum Club in Houston.
"It is a great honor to be recognized by our partners in the shale gas industry for our work creating innovative and economical environmental solutions that support sustainable natural gas production in the U.S. and abroad," said AbTech founder Glenn Rink. "Our systems have the ability to reduce both water and air pollution at fracking sites, minimize fresh water usage, and harvest valuable hydrocarbons from frac and produced water that can be used to reduce overall energy costs."
AbTech's Produced Water Pre-Treatment System combines best-of-breed available technologies, innovative system engineering, and AbTech's proprietary Smart Sponge® de-oiling technology to remove oil and other contaminants from frac and produced water at natural gas production sites. The pretreatment system employs a three-stage process for oil recovery, de-oiling, and VOC air stripping, offering natural gas producers a complete solution that works with and protects any downstream produced water treatment systems being employed in the field. Proven to remove up to 99.9% of hydrocarbons from produced and frac water, AbTech's Smart Sponge® media also has a high BTU value once saturated, and has the potential to be used as an energy source to fuel fracking operations.
