BERLIN, N.J., May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Nothing says summer more than craft projects and lemonade stands. This year, A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts (www.acmoore.com) is helping kids enjoy both with its annual FREE summer fun craft program.
Held every Wednesday between June 26 and August 14, the program offers free craft activities from 1 p.m. through 3 p.m. for children ages 4 – 12 years. This year, the program kicks off with a summer fun tote bag project benefitting Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (www.AlexsLemonade.org).
On June 26, shoppers at all 139 A.C. Moore stores can purchase a canvas tote bag for $1. All monies raised through the sale directly benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. kids can use Simply Spray® to create a special design on their tote bags for free while learning more about holding their own lemonade stands in support of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and pediatric cancer research. Lemonade stand projects can be found at the A.C. Moore website, www.acmoore.com. Shoppers can also donate to the foundation via the purchase of paper "lemons" at checkout.
"We are thrilled to be working with A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts this summer during 'lemonade season' to bring attention to the fight against childhood cancer," said Liz Scott, Co-Executive Director of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and mom to creator Alexandra Scott. "What better way to educate children about ways they can make a difference than by involving them in a hands-on project that they won't soon forget."
"Our Summer Fun Wednesday program is designed to tap into children's creativity, and this year, we are hoping families get creative with ways to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation through lemonade stands of their own," said Robin Beam, Director of Education. "We know the tote bags will serve the kids well this summer as they enjoy all the wonderful activities that summer brings, including crafting and lemonade stands."
Summer Fun Wednesdays begin June 26 and continue through August 14. Scheduled activities include:

About Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex's dream of finding a cure, funding over 300 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
