Acadia Healthcare Expands Suicide Prevention Effort Within Substance Use Community
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn., April 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Acadia Healthcare, a leading provider of behavioral healthcare services, and The Jason Foundation, Inc. (JFI), a nationally recognized leader in suicide awareness and prevention, today jointly announced that they have expanded their offerings by opening 15 Community Resource Centers (CRCs). Acadia Healthcare became affiliated with The Jason Foundation in 2013 to provide educational materials and programs to patients, families, and communities.
Substance use, mental illness, and suicidal ideation have long held an interconnected relationship. Dealing with substance use disorders can prove substantially more difficult when facing mental health struggles, as inhibitions are lowered when people are intoxicated. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "Opiates were present in 20% of suicide deaths …" and "approximately 22% of deaths by suicide involved alcohol intoxication …"
These Community Resource Centers are located within Acadia's Comprehensive Treatment Centers (CTCs), which provide medication-assisted treatment to adults age 18 and older who are struggling with opioid use disorder. By combining counseling with prescription medications, CTCs can help adults achieve successful long-term recovery from opioid addiction.
CRCs will provide patients, their families, and communities with educational materials designed to inform them on how substance use disorders are related to mental health concerns and suicidal ideation. They will also guide those in need toward resources for help. The CRCs are located in 15 Comprehensive Treatment Centers in four states across the country.
