Acano Puts Microsoft Lync at Center Stage
Acano Expands the World for Microsoft Lync Users While Preserving the Lync Experience
LONDON and NEW YORK, March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Today Acano just made the world bigger for users of Microsoft Lync. With long-proven Lync interoperability, Acano preserves the Lync experience for participants as they join conferences with non-Lync participants. Now, Lync callers can create conferences using native Lync methods to add non-Lync users as full participants. The move secures Microsoft Lync at center stage in any deployment.

Acano's native support of Microsoft Lync includes:
- SVC/H.264UC (Lync 2013) and RTVideo (Lync 2010) standards for interoperability
- Direct federation to Office365
- Bidirectional content sharing
- IM/Presence
- Multi-party conferencing
With the new native Lync conferencing capabilities, participants using Lync can start a new conference by simply dragging and dropping a contact into a conference. One-to-one calls can turn into multi-party conferences by adding another contact name to the conference. Callers that may be on traditional video conferencing systems or Jabber clients, for example, become full participants in Lync calls.
This interoperability extends to High Profile H.264 (Polycom), Baseline Profile (Cisco), WebM/VP8 (WebRTC), VP9 and the much anticipated HEVC/H.265 standard. Acano will demonstrate these video standards, along with Lync 2013 and 2010, in a single call at Enterprise Connect in Orlando March 17-19.
Acano is rapidly being adopted as the preferred gateway for Microsoft Lync users.
According to Roopam Jain, Industry Director of the Conferencing and Collaboration practice at Frost & Sullivan, "Given the rise of Microsoft Lync users in the enterprise, finding a solution that connects Lync to other technologies is a top priority for CIOs. Acano's ability to provide a native user experience while providing interoperability with all of the key standards, including H.265 and VP9, positions them well."
"Our approach is to bring everyone together while giving each person the experience they want," says Andy Pepperell, Director of Software Engineering at Acano. "Lync people can seamlessly connect with people without Lync, for example people that prefer traditional video conferencing, Jabber, and soon even the announced H.265 video systems from Cisco. What makes Acano unique is that this interoperability is possible even as the Lync experience is fully preserved."
Additional Information
Acano was selected as one of six "Best of Enterprise Connect" finalists. Acano will demonstrate seven standards, including WebRTC and VP9, in a single call at Enterprise Connect, booth #1819.
Dr. Jan Nielsen, Acano's VP of Products, will discuss "Emerging Technologies" at a Wainhouse Panel at the show on March 18th 8am ET.
