
Acclaimed Education Expert Dr. Suzanne Wilson Joins Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Board of Trustees
MOORESTOWN, N.J., May 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF), a nonprofit dedicated to recruiting, supporting and sustaining outstanding new teachers of high school science and mathematics, has announced the appointment of Dr. Suzanne Wilson as the newest trustee of its board. A University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University (MSU), Dr. Wilson is Chair of the MSU Department of Teacher Education. She is currently a member of the National Research Council's Board on Science Education. She joins KSTF with extensive experience in educational policy, teacher learning and knowledge, and curriculum reform.

Dr. Wilson was the first director of the Teacher Assessment Project, which developed prototype assessments for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She has taught undergraduate-, graduate-, and doctoral-level classes in educational policy, teacher learning, and research methods, and directed multiple dissertations. While at Michigan State, Dr. Wilson has collaborated with prominent education-focused organizations on several large-scale research projects, including the National Center for Research on Teacher Education, the Educational Policy and Practice Study, and the National Partnership for Excellence and Accountability in Teaching. She is currently co-principal investigator on a research project entitled Learning Science as Inquiry with the Urban Advantage: Formal-informal Collaborations to Increase Science Literacy and Student Learning.
Dr. Wilson has been published in American Educator, American Educational Research Journal, Educational Researcher, Elementary School Journal, Journal of Teacher Education, Phi Delta Kappan, Science, and Teachers College Record. She is the author of California Dreaming: Reforming Mathematics Education (Yale, 2003), and editor of Lee Shulman's collection of essays, Wisdom of Practice: Essays on Teaching, Learning, and Learning to Teach (Jossey-Bass, 2004). Dr. Wilson holds an undergraduate degree in history and American Studies from Brown University, and an MS in statistics and a PhD in psychological studies in education from Stanford University.
