Advanced Energy 2013, Premier Conference Of Its Kind, Serves As A Showcase For High Tech Energy Entrepreneurs April 30-May 1 In New York

STONY BROOK, N.Y., April 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dozens of cutting edge technology energy entrepreneurs from across New York State and the country have the unique opportunity to be mentored, learn about development opportunities and pitch their business plan to venture capitalists, business leaders, "angel" investors, and legal and financial advisors when they convene at Advanced Energy 2013 April 30 to May 1 in New York City.

Advanced Energy 2013 is a partnership of government policy experts, academic institutions, energy providers and industrial corporations dedicated to innovative energy research, education and technology deployment. The conference is dedicated to the advancement of green technology and clean energy with a special focus on industry growth and job creation. It is organized by the Advanced Energy Center, a New York State-designated Center of Excellence based at Stony Brook University. The specific track for energy technology entrepreneurs - one of 14 tracks at the conference -- is dedicated to energy start-ups, incubation companies and entrepreneurs and is sponsored by IBM.

Of particular note to the many energy entrepreneurs who will be in attendance, the nationally renowned innovation expert Harry Epstein, president of the Chicago-based Quadrant Management, will keynote a session on how start-ups can be even more innovative and entrepreneurial. Mr. Epstein's appearance on day two of the conference and the rest of the programming is specifically directed towards energy entrepreneurs.

Under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's leadership, NYSERDA, a supporter of the conference, has funded six clean energy incubators across the state, which work with 84 clean-tech start-ups and have raised $63 million in capital while creating 38 new products and 166 new jobs. Representatives from a number of these incubators and their tenant companies will be present at the conference to share both business and technical plans for reshaping our energy infrastructure for greater efficiency, reliability, and resilience. These incubators will display their most innovative product and technology partners at the conference.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a longtime proponent of energy efficiency and sustainability; Richard Kauffman, the nationally-prominent energy policy expert recently appointed by Gov. Cuomo as chairman of New York's Energy Policy and Finance; David Sandalow, U.S. Acting Under Secretary of Energy, and Dr. Daniel Gerstein, U.S. Under Secretary for Science and Technology in the Department of Homeland Security, are among the keynote speakers.

Already 85 creative technology posters have been submitted by graduate and undergraduate students studying energy in a competitive challenge for top cash prizes, judged by renowned energy experts.

Now in its seventh year, the Advanced Energy Conference series has emerged as the largest advanced energy event in the Northeast. The conference has been recast in a new, expanded format for 2013 and has already attracted thousands of registrants with a stake in the future of the nation's energy policy.
