Adventureland Toy Emporium Coming to Downtown Los Angeles
Furniture designer, toy designer, child development specialist and fashion designer announces her vision for the Great American toy store
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The spirit of endless wonder brought to life by so many toy stores in the past now has no viable outlet in Los Angeles. Adventureland Toy Emporium will capture that spirit, reimagining the Great American toy store for a modern world.
Since the closing of FAO Schwarz in 2015, children in LA have very few options when it comes to toy stores, and none come close to creating an immersive experience that equals the wonders of a child's imagination.
Adventureland will put the magic back into the experience of going to the toy store. The store will consist of several different areas, each catering to children's diverse interests. Each area will be accessible to children via a small entrance (parents will enter through a separate entrance), creating the effect of entering an entirely new world, where seemingly endless walls of toys and activities will greet each child as they enter.
Areas will include a section of developmental toys for kids aged zero to three, a Designer Room where kids can color and paint on the walls, a Laboratory filled with science-related toys, a Makers Room for budding engineers and a Thinkers Room filled with puzzles and games.
Children will even be able to climb a huge tree in the very center of the store, climbing inside it to discover a treasure trove of wooden toys.
In Adventureland, there will be no cash registers and no lines to interrupt the experience. Instead, store employees will be sprinkled throughout the store to directly engage our customers. Monthly clubs like Construction Club, plus daily and weekly classes covering topics like robotics will keep kids coming back for more. There will even be weekend game nights.
Annamarie von Firley, Founder and President of Adventureland Toy Emporium, has a BA in Wooden Toy Design & Construction from Hampshire College, where she spent four years studying Child Development. She also has a BFA in Furniture Design from the California College of the Arts, and garments made at her fashion house, reVamp founded in 1998, have been featured in more than 100 television shows.
Frustrated by the lack of resources for curious children, von Firley was motivated to create a space where parents find it easy to cultivate their child's unique interests and skills, and to be a part of that process instead of merely being a spectator.
Adventureland will be designed for kids up to 16 years old, and von Firley imagines a space where children can tap into their boundless creativity and natural propensity for exploration that grows with each child through the years: from developmental toys in the preschool years to game nights for teenagers. Adventureland will cultivate children's inherent curiosity stimulating the minds of future architects, engineers, artists, scientists, makers and thinkers.
Adventureland will also be complemented by an online store and an Amazon store, and von Firley is taking to crowdfunding to make Adventureland a reality. Anyone in the Los Angeles area, or who's planning to visit LA, can sign up at adventurelandtoys.com to be the first to know when the campaign launches.
