The team, comprised of former principals of Cert Direct (CDS), Tim Balint, Erik Smith and Jeff Johnson, bring nearly 50 years of underwriting experience to complement AAM's distribution capabilities. The group will provide banks and investors with expanded access to competitive rates and investment choices, while underwriting and distributing primary FDIC Insured Certificates of Deposits.
"The breadth of our products continues to grow in order to meet the fixed income needs of our clients," said Michael Segal, Executive Vice President and Head of Capital Markets Group Trading. "With more than 400 bank relationships and 100 dealers in their selling group, the addition of Balint, Johnson and Smith provides our issuers with a cost-efficient way to support their loan growth and complement their core deposits while providing our clients with competitive rates."
Balint has over 20 years of experience in the CD industry. He started his career at San Clemente Securities in 1991, where he sold various types of CDs directly to credit unions and other non-profit organizations. Johnson has over 10 years of experience with fixed income, specializing in assisting individual investors and businesses to reach their financial goals through CDs, Annuities and other Insurance products. Prior to joining AAM, he served as Vice President of CD Underwriting at CDS. There he also ran the day to day operations of the Underwriting Department and assisted in dealer sales on the CD Trading Desk. Smith has been a fixed income trader for 18 years. Prior to his role as Owner and Chief Executive Officer of CDS in 2006, he worked at the trading desks of Quick and Reilly, FLEET and Bank of America.
"The current environment of low interest rates can be challenging for investors looking for fixed income yields, but we feel that our offerings will be especially competitive with Balint, Smith and Johnson's experience and success," said Segal. "We are always identifying new ways to enhance the value to our clients and are excited about the synergy that these three bring to our firm."
