AEA Technology, Inc. and ITT Exelis win US Navy Hand-Held Aircraft Wiring Test (HAWT) Contract
CARLSBAD, Calif., July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 30, 2011, AEA Technology, Inc. in partnership with ITT Exelis was awarded a multi-year contract to provide the US Navy with a Hand-Held Aircraft Wiring Tester (HAWT).
The HAWT's main component is a battery powered hand-held Step TDR based on AEA Technology's new E20/20 Step TDR and modified to meet the Navy's requirements. The entire assembly includes a carrying case various test leads, AC adapter, belt case and the new ETDR PC Vision™ software all of which must meet the Navy's MilStd specifications for shipboard and aircraft use. With the HAWT, aircraft maintenance personnel will have a powerful new instrument to isolate wiring fault within +/- 1 inch with resolution to 0.5 inch.
AEA Technology, Inc is located in Carlsbad, CA. Originally known as Advanced Electronic Applications, AEA Wireless, the company has been in business for 39 years supplying economical hand-held SWR meters, Vector Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, FDRs and Step TDRs. AEA Technology's well-known 20/20 Step TDR has been on the market since 2004 and is now being replaced by an enhanced version – the E20/20 Step TDR. These TDRs can measure any type of coax, twisted pair, single pairs in a harness and other cables and other applications such as soil moisture content. They have no dead zone on any range setting and are loaded with features to help evaluate cable parameters.
MicroFault locating provides two methods of finding small impedance variations from coax kinks or other mishandling that are hard to spot on a normal impedance trace. Both the HAWT and E20/20 TDRs have a user modifiable cable list that can be updated in the TDR or by using ETDR PC Vision software supplied with the TDR. Unlimited cable lists can be stored on the PC. ETDR PC Vision can also upload current or stored TDR traces and save, print or export their data points in multiple file formats.
"This is AEA Technology's first partnered project with ITT Exelis and we are thoroughly pleased with all government contract and logistics experience they supply. We look forward to working with them over the next 5 years," said an AEA Technology representative.
