By engaging both companies at the technology, marketing and business levels, the alliance will allow amniotic tissues to be recovered, processed and made available to the broader medical professional community.
Amniotic tissue transplants have been recovered, processed and used for corneal, burn and other wound covering applications since the 1990s in the both the United States and the European Union. The safety record of Amniotic Tissues in those applications is strong and interest in using these materials as wound coverings is a natural evolution of the medical experience to date.
Joining AFCell Medical's communication, education, product research and distribution capabilities with MTF's consortium of leading academic medical institutions, organ procurement organizations and ability to consistently and safely recover and process human tissues for transplant, will allow more surgeons to gain access to amniotic tissues.
"Combining the unique strengths of MTF and AFCell Medical, we will make high quality and reliably processed amniotic tissue wound coverings available to more clinicians in the United States than ever before. Together our two firms can make a real difference for surgeons and their patients," said Bruce Stroever, President and CEO of MTF.
"We are coming together to assure medical professionals that a source of high quality amniotic tissues is now available," said Robin Young, CEO of AFCell Medical. "Our shared vision includes an extensive product development program which will allow us to deliver tissue coverings to support the needs of medical professionals throughout the United States."
