According to Raj Dash, managing editor of AffordableSchools.net, "We were trying to balance out top universities located in massive metros that naturally have more entrepreneurial activity, with smaller or rural top-notch schools that also have great support networks for entrepreneurship." Almost all of the universities included are ranked in the top 100 schools in the world by some measure, with programs in and connections to large entrepreneurial hubs, even if they aren't located in a top metro. Furthermore, most schools on the list have an established hub of entrepreneurial activity on campus that helps to collaborate between departments. Schools often regularly offer incubators, pitch or business plan competitions, workspace, faculty mentorship, and networking events for entrepreneurial students to meet each other, and for students with an idea to meet with already established entrepreneurs and venture capitalists.
The most established entrepreneurial schools in the ranking have already commercialized thousands of STEM discoveries, provided thousands of jobs, and raised hundreds of millions in capital. The less-established entrepreneurial schools in the ranking provide top-notch educations as well as the ability for young entrepreneurs to network, practice their pitches, and create mentorship relations within their college years.
