HERSHEY, Pa., April 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania's largest union, Council 13 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), re-elected David R. Fillman (who ran unopposed) to a third 3-year term as Executive Director at the union's 38th annual convention held on Saturday, April 24, 2010.
"You are survivors. You are heroes. And together we beat the villains every day," Fillman told a crowd of nearly 1,000 gathered at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center. "There's a new energy in this room. You can feel it. We're in for the ride of our lives."
Fillman also serves as a Vice President of International AFSCME, which represents more than 1.6 million workers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
In addition, Fillman chairs the Pennsylvania Employees Benefit Trust Fund (PEBTF), which administers benefits for more than 200,000 members including active and retired state employees and their dependents, and he sits on the board of the State Employees Retirement System (SERS).
Also running unopposed was Todd Singer, a Tax Examiner with the Department of Revenue who was re-elected for a 2nd term as President of Council 13's Board. The Board is comprised of 21 Officers, Vice Presidents and Trustees who represent more than 65,000 workers employed by the state and its counties, municipalities, cities, school districts, authorities, non-profits and health care facilities.
