After Retaining Hager & Schwartz, P.A. Injunction Against Husband of Mom Who Drove Kids Into Ocean Dismissed
An injunction for protection against the husband of a woman who drove her three children into the ocean has been dropped. The husband is being represented by John S. Hager, a prominent Florida criminal defense lawyer and Partner at Hager & Schwartz.
MIAMI, March 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- An injunction for protection – a Civil Court Order often referred to as a restraining order – against the husband of the woman who drove her mini-van and three children into the ocean in Daytona Beach has been dismissed. An attorney on behalf of the woman's sister asked the court to drop the injunction Thursday morning.
The husband, Lutful Ronjon, found himself facing the injunction after a bizarre set of events took place involving his wife, Ebony Wilkerson. Wilkerson had been taken into custody after intentionally driving her mini-van into the ocean on March 4th with her three children– ages 3, 9, and 10 – inside. Wilkerson was also pregnant.
After the incident, Jessica Harrell – Wilkerson's sister Ronjon's sister in law – stepped forward to allege that Wilkerson's actions were the result of an abusive and threatening husband. Wilkerson's sister had made claims that she witnessed the abusive behavior against her sister in the past, had once tried to stop Ronjon from strangling Wilkerson, and that she too felt threatened because Ronjon had threatened her with a knife.
Ultimately, Harrell asked the court to dismiss the temporary injunction for protection. Attorney John Hager, who is representing Ronjon, stated to multiple news sources that the injunction was dropped because there was no evidence or facts to support her claims. Ronjon and Hager have maintained that Wilkerson was mentally unstable, and several doctors have testified the same. Wilkerson remains in custody pending criminal charges and psychiatric treatment.
Although the case is certainly strange – and it has garnered national media attention as a result – the implications of criminal charges against Ronjon were all too real. The complexity of the case, as well as the serious domestic violence allegations and possible criminal penalties at stake required the attention of a seasoned criminal defense attorney.
By drawing from his years of experience, Attorney Hager was able to focus on the facts – or lack thereof – and was able to demonstrate that claims against his client were unfounded. As a result, the injunction was dismissed. Attorney Hager provides the same level of reassurance and exceptional representation to all clients at his criminal defense firm, even amid unsettling and high-profile circumstances.
