Agilex Receives VAi2 Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs to Advance Veterans Healthcare

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- HIMSS11 -- Agilex, a leading provider of mission and technology solutions to the national security, healthcare and public sectors, announced today it is a recipient of a VA Innovation Initiative (VAi2) award from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  Agilex was selected to lead a project at the Washington, DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center that will extend core capabilities of the VistA electronic health record (EHR) system to mobile devices.  This project will serve as a pilot for VA to evaluate strategies and technologies for providing clinicians with secure, on-demand access to clinical information via smart phones and tablets.

Leveraging elements of the Agilex Mobile Health Platform, Agilex will work with VA to integrate VistA with popular mobile devices, such as the Apple iOS (iPhone and iPad) platform.  By doing so, it will provide clinicians with on-demand access to a patient's medical history, including demographics, laboratory data, medications, allergies, appointments, and problem lists. The project will also integrate clinical calendars and secure messaging with the devices to streamline scheduling and information exchange.  Another key focus will be on addressing device security to achieve compliance with federal and VA directives.
