Airport Authority Hits Travelers with Increased Fees

PITTSBURGH, June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- "The Allegheny Airport Authority is unfairly boosting fees for customers taking taxis, Super Shuttles and limousines to and from Pittsburgh International Airport," according to Jamie Campolongo, president and chief executive officer of Pittsburgh Transportation Group (PTG).

"With virtually no warning or discussion," he added, "the Airport Authority has doubled the fees charged to all our equipment serving the airport.  They have raised our costs to $180,000 annually to provide service to the airport."

"Long term," said Campolongo, "that means we'll have to seek a fare increase from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to cover the increased costs and then pass it on to our customers.  In the meantime, we'll have to eat the costs and it could be several months before we get PUC action."

"Additionally," he noted, "more fees impacting passengers make Pittsburgh Airport a less attractive destination for conventions and business."

"We would have hoped the Airport Authority would have engaged us in some discussion before implementing this increased charge," he noted.

PTG companies include Yellow Cab, People's Cab, City Cab, Super Shuttle, ExecuCar/Embassy Coach, Freedom Transportation and PTG Charter Services.

The company has over 400 independent contractors and 325 employees operating some 800 taxis, limousines and charter vehicles.

PTG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Veolia Transportation, the largest operator of multiple modes of transportation.
