JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To continue to evolve its networking solutions and improve its network security infrastructure for the ever-changing marketplace, Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) announced its recent collaboration with Akamai®, a global leader in Content Delivery Network (CDN) services.
"As the needs of this generation of injured service members changes, so too must the infrastructure that we use to help honor and empower Wounded Warriors," said Donna Buckner, executive vice president of Information Technology at WWP. "Our website, woundedwarriorproject.org, exists as a hub and key point of contact for many of the wounded veterans that we serve. It provides critical information about the programs and services that are available to our Alumni. Thanks to this partnership with Akamai, our website, which is a critical component of how Wounded Warrior Project serves injured service members, will have the support and security required to ensure continued operation."
As with many companies in the 21st century, WWP's website serves many purposes. Aside from educating the public and directing Alumni to programs and services, WWP's website is also a major fundraising platform for individual donors. Donations made by supporters through the main WWP webpage provide critical funds that allow WWP to provide its direct programs and services free of charge to Alumni, for life.
One such program is WWP's Transition Training Academy (TTA). Through TTA, students learn different levels of computer and internet technology. TTA then helps the wounded veteran, his or her family, or caregiver through the certification process, to help provide new employment opportunities. More than 5,000 wounded veterans, their families, and caregivers were positively impacted by Economic Empowerment programs in January alone. Learn more about TTA at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/programs/transition-training-academy.aspx.
"Wounded Warrior Project is doing great things for America's injured service members, and many of their excellent programs and services are directly supported by their website," explained Tom Ruff, vice president, Public Sector, Akamai. "We're proud to be working with Wounded Warrior Project and providing cloud security solutions that help keep the website protected and available to visitors, Alumni, and supporters."
To help protect its website, WWP is using Akamai's Cloud Security Solutions. Built on the Akamai Intelligent Platform™, Akamai Cloud Security Solutions provide the scale to stop the largest Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) and web application attacks without reducing performance. Further, by delivering intelligence into the latest threats and the expertise to adapt to shifting tactics and attack vectors, Akamai can help WWP stay ahead of a constantly evolving threat landscape.
Since being founded in 2003, Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) has evolved its programs and services to meet the growing needs of the constituency it serves. Currently, nearly 100,000 wounded service members, their family members, and caregivers receive support each year through free WWP programs and services. Through a high-touch and interactive approach, the WWP vision is to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history.
