Alabama is one of five Southeastern Conference schools to crack the Top 10, along with Georgia (#3), Texas A&M (#5), South Carolina (#7) and LSU (#10). The Pac 12 has two teams in the Top 10: Oregon (#2) and Stanford (#4).
In creating the rankings, IntPicks.com used the same simulation system it developed for its handicapping service to develop the IntelliRatings. All 125 NCAA Division I-A teams were given weighted rankings from 1 to 99 for their offenses, defenses, special teams and coaching staffs. Each teams' schedule was simulated 20,000 times, with the outcomes from the simulations leading to the teams' rating.
"Our simulations take into account every mundane detail that can impact the outcome of each match up, down to the expected weather conditions at game time," said Jesse Weston, president of IntPicks.com. "Just as we do with our sports picks through the season, we have our seasoned experts covering each team reality check the simulation results to ensure that they make sense in the real world," he added.
