Alcantara and Ross Lovegrove unveil Transmission during London Design Festival
Unique three-dimensional tapestry unveiled at Victoria and Albert Museum
LONDON, Sept. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcantara and British designer Ross Lovegrove recently unveiled Transmission, their latest collaboration, at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) as part of London Design Festival 2017.
Inspired by the Devonshire Hunting Tapestries at the V&A, Transmission is a spectacular 21-meter-long fluid and free-standing three-dimensional tapestry made entirely from Alcantara®, the renowned Italian material. It will be on display at the V&A through Oct. 8.
The installation was created by Lovegrove to mark the fifteenth edition of London's annual design event (Sept. 16-24), which brings together the biggest names from the industry for a week-long celebration of design and innovation.
Created using Alcantara, a tactile and pliable material, the soft undulating folds of the installation reflect and highlight both the colors and forms of medieval tapestries. The material's versatility is highlighted in the different methods of treatment, including coloring and embellishment.

The V&A Museum has been the official London Design Festival hub since 2009. Once again, this unique event will see the iconic spaces within the museum transformed by an extraordinary collection of specially-commissioned installations and displays by the world's most exciting designers.
