AlderLaw in Los Angeles Sets Record in Plaintiff Victories With Major Settlements in 2011
Attorney Michael Alder and team win $18 million in settlements for victims in just 45 days
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AlderLaw, a leading plaintiff's law firm in Los Angeles, scored eight settlements totaling $18 million for its clients in a 45-day period from June to July 2011. The firm adds these seven-figure settlements to its already impressive roster of victories this year, including two verdicts in January and February totaling $77 million.
The June-July settlements involved cases of vehicular and pedestrian accidents that resulted in serious bodily injuries to AlderLaw's clients. In the trial of a Los Angeles County assistant district attorney and veteran prosecutor who injured two women while drunk driving last year, managing partner Michael Alder and his team settled with the defendant for $1.2 million after the jury awarded more than $1 million in compensatory damages to the two victims. In another case, Alder represented the family of a 24-year-old motorcyclist killed after being hit by a left-turning 18-wheeler. AlderLaw also represented a man hit in a crosswalk and seriously injured, successfully proving that the driver was on her way to a company event at the time of the accident.
"This has been a banner year for our firm, but the number I'm most proud of is the $3 million we've paid this summer in referral fees to the many attorneys who entrust us with their clients during their hardest times," said Alder, who founded AlderLaw and generates all of his business through attorney referrals.
Earlier this year, Alder's team helped secure two major verdicts in Ventura County, Calif., and in St. Charles Parish, La. In the Ventura County case, Alder represented a California Highway Patrol officer paralyzed from the waist down after being struck by a car. The $48 million verdict in January 2011 is the largest personal injury verdict in county history by a factor of two. In Louisiana, Alder obtained a $29.1 million jury verdict in February 2011 for the daughter of a man who was killed in a big-rig accident, also the largest verdict in the parish's history.
