ALDI Celebrates Return to Joplin with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Contribution
Grocer Provides Seven Families with Free Groceries
JOPLIN, Mo., Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ALDI is proud to have contributed its support to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's recent project in Joplin that built seven homes in seven days for families who suffered significant losses in the May tornadoes that destroyed much of the city. The Joplin episode, which will be the show's 200th episode, is scheduled to air on January 13, 2012, on ABC at 7 p.m. CT.
"After the horrible destruction caused by the Joplin tornadoes, we wanted our neighbors to know that we are in this with them, and that ALDI is committed not only to rebuilding our store, but also to helping rebuild Joplin," said Mark Bersted, ALDI division vice president. "Joining forces with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was a great opportunity for ALDI to help these families directly affected by the tornadoes in our community."
During a press conference to celebrate the conclusion of the project, Bersted and ALDI Joplin Store Manager, Scott Lee, presented each of the seven families with ALDI gift certificates to help fill their new refrigerators and pantries with fresh groceries and other household essentials.
The ALDI store in Joplin was completely demolished by the tornadoes that devastated the area. However, on October 22, exactly five months after the storms, ALDI re-opened its Joplin store ahead of schedule, once again providing the community with the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices. Regional companies were hired for the store rebuilding, making this truly a community effort.
"We've been a part of the Joplin community since 1986, and we feel very fortunate to be able to celebrate with these families and the Joplin community," said Bersted.
