Align Production Systems Engineers Custom Transporter to Boost Safety and Efficiency in Die Handling

CHESTERFIELD, Mo., Oct. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Align Production Systems has engineered a custom 130,000-pound-capacity flatbed transporter for a leading metal stamping manufacturer, delivering a safer and more efficient way to move heavy dies across a production floor. The project highlights Align's continued leadership in designing material handling equipment that combines engineering precision with advanced safety features.

Solving a High-Stakes Challenge
The customer needed to replace aging transporters that struggled to handle extreme die weights without stressing the facility's flooring or risking operator safety. Align's engineering team developed a solution: a heavy-duty transporter that manages intense loads while maintaining structural and operator protection.

"By combining robust engineering with new safety technologies, we developed a transporter that can handle extreme loads while keeping operators fully protected," said Colton Phillips, Engineer at Align Production Systems.

Engineering for Safety and Performance
The transporter features a wide wheelbase and multiple idler wheels to evenly distribute weight and protect floor integrity. Designed for remote operation and future AGV upgrades, the unit also integrates a suite of safety features, including:

• Directional and perimeter lighting to enhance visibility.
• Programmable safety scanners that stop motion if a person or object enters the zone.
• Slipknot non-slip deck surface to prevent die shifting.
• Spring-loaded top deck to cushion die placement and extend equipment life.
• Slide-out battery trays for quick, safe maintenance.

Delivering Measurable Results
Since implementation, the transporter has improved operator confidence, workplace safety, and productivity. The design prevents floor overload while keeping the load stable during transport. The customer experiences precise die placement and reduced injury risk, while making it easier to move heavy loads.

Setting a New Standard for Die Handling
The project underscores Align's commitment to engineering solutions that protect people, equipment, and facilities. Lessons from this build are now influencing design standards across Align's transporter product line.
