PLANT CITY, Fla., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Alkema Solutions, formerly American Water Chemicals (AWC), has adopted a new logo.

The new logo reflects the company's dedication to research and development in chemistry and membrane foulant characterization.
Alkema Solutions pioneered the use of elemental imaging in membrane autopsies, which it introduced to the membrane world in a paper at the 2011 AMTA conference in Miami. The paper, titled "A Relationship between Phosphate Scaling and Silica Fouling in Wastewater RO Systems," was presented again at the IDA World Congress in Perth. The paper described how elemental mapping was used to prove that silica scale deposited in areas where phosphate scaling had formed.
Alkema Solutions continues to be at the forefront of research on aluminosilicate and ferrosilicate scale formation. Recently, Alkema Solutions released the AWC A-110, an antiscalant specifically designed for use in wastewater reuse RO systems with high tolerance to iron and aluminum. The AWC A-110 is an excellent inhibitor of phosphate, aluminosilicate and ferrosilicate scales.
This month, Alkema will be introducing AWC A-114 UF, a phosphorous-free formulation designed for use with microfiltration (MF) and Ultrafiltration (UF) systems that filter lime-softened river water. This was in response to the growing need for more effective and environmentally friendly alternative to polyphosphates currently used for such applications.
The new Alkema Solutions logo consists of a molecule to represent scientific research in chemistry, along with the name "Alkema." The name itself is derived from the word "Alchemy," the predecessor of modern chemistry that was mostly dedicated to converting common metals into gold. Today, Alkema prides itself in helping hundreds of membrane plants around the world convert unusable saline and wastewaters into blue gold.
The colors of the molecule are red, blue and white to represent its American identity, and the name "Alkema" is in blue to signify blue gold.
