LAS VEGAS, June 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The first event in the Altrient Talon Throwdown Series is set to take place this Saturday, June 30th, at CrossFit Talon in Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville. The Altrient Talon Throwdown Series is based on the renowned CrossFit Games, a grueling international competition to determine the Fittest on Earth. The athletes will perform a series of fitness challenges known as WODs (Workouts of the Day), which are at the core of all CrossFit training.
Since the WODs will be selected at random just before the competition begins, the athletes will have no opportunity to prepare in advance. They must be physically and mentally ready for anything and everything. Based on their overall individual performances, participants will either move on to the next stage or be eliminated from the series.
"Our list of athletes is stoked with high-level talent," said Tim Donegan, Series Director for the Altrient Talon Throwdown Series. "Many of these men and women are seasoned competitors just back from the CrossFit Regionals, and others are looking to make their mark as serious contenders."
Among the CrossFit notables slated to attend are top-ten Regionals standouts Irving Hernandez, Derek Robinson and EZ Muhammad, as well as top-ten team competitors Josh McGuire, Jordan Pepe, Zan Hamilton and Alex Vlasse from CrossFit Impulse and Josie Parsons, Kyle Mooneyham and Jessica Martinez from CrossFit Murfreesboro. Former Tennessee Titans Linebacker, Ryan Fowler, and Kevin Lowe, who recently endured the 2012 Death Race, will also be on hand to face the challenge.
"CrossFit Talon is looking forward to hosting these gifted athletes and showcasing their abilities for all to see," Donegan added. "It's going to be a great competition."
Altrient, Inc., based in Henderson, Nevada, is the title sponsor of the Altrient Talon Throwdown Series. Cindy Nachman, CEO of Altrient, believes CrossFit is an ideal vehicle for promoting the company's high-performance nutritional supplements, as well as its values of Health, Passion and Responsibility.
"We absolutely love CrossFit," Nachman said. "We first got involved as the personal sponsor of Cheryl Brost, who is a great athlete as well as our official spokesperson. Then we became a Silver Sponsor of the CrossFit North West Regionals and now Title Sponsor of the Altrient Talon Throwdown Series. Altrient and CrossFit are a perfect match."
Brost, who recently won the CrossFit North West Regionals, will be competing for the title of Fittest Woman in the World at the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games in July.
"We found the CrossFit community to be deeply committed to a lifestyle that values optimal fitness and health," Nachman continued. "We share this commitment and we want to demonstrate our continued support by sponsoring the Altrient Talon Throwdown Series."
"The Talon Throwdown Series is excited about our partnership with Altrient," Donegan said. "Altrient offers great products and their emergence in the CrossFit community is beneficial to athletes wanting to gain an edge on the competition. We look forward to Altrient's contributions to the success of the series and our competitors."
