Veteran Women Igniting Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) Recognizes Three Top Leaders to Inspire Careers of Women in the Military
CLERMONT, Fla., Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Master Chief Petty Officer Ginger Simpson (USN Retired), COO of Central Florida's amaZulu, Inc., was invited to San Diego to be honored during the opening ceremony of the annual Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) conference. Simpson, the first female ever to be appointed Command Master Chief of a large shore activity, was recognized at the conference in August, for her pioneering efforts to further the careers of women in the military.
"V-WISE participants finish the program with a keen focus on what it will take to start or grow their business. It's important for these women to have examples of pure leadership, of others who have walked in their shoes, as they take the next step," says Meghan Florkowski, V-WISE program manager at the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Syracuse University. "We were honored to have Ginger Simpson as one of our V-WISE 'FIRSTS,' to provide this example. She has walked in these women's shoes and understands what it takes to dig down deep in support of something she believes in, that is the pursuit of business ownership."
During her military career, Simpson served in five states and nine foreign countries. Among her many accomplishments, she was appointed the first female and sixth director of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, was the first female nominee and finalist for the esteemed position of Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, served on a number of Department of Defense policy making committees and was an advisor to top military officials on the implementation of women in combat roles.
Today, Simpson oversees the operations of amaZulu, Inc., a worldwide leader of natural and synthetic architectural theming material. This renowned Central Florida company headquartered in Clermont, FL, provides premier quality products for use in high caliber projects by prominent architects, designers and end users. amaZulu's natural thatch, construction grade bamboo, and eucalyptus timber materials have been utilized in notable local, national and international construction projects, including private islands of Musha Cay and Necker Island (homes to celebrities such as David Copperfield, Tim McGraw/Faith Hill and Richard Branson), as well as Disney Theme Parks, Sea World, Royal Caribbean, and countless resorts, restaurants, theme parks, casinos and zoos worldwide.
As an active member of V-WISE, Simpson seeks opportunities to help women veterans achieve success in civilian careers. "I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to help the next generation of female veterans transition into rewarding, successful and profitable civilian careers," says Simpson.
In addition to Master Chief Simpson, Brigadier General Belinda Pinckney, USA, RET, and Major General Martha Rainville, USAF, National Guard, RET, were also honored for their pioneering military careers.
