BROOKLYN, N.Y., Dec. 3, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 18, Solco Plumbing Supply, Inc., a New York City-based plumbing supply company, held the first-ever plumbing industry "America First Expo." This expo highlighted the importance of buying American-manufactured plumbing and HVAC products, rather than following the trend of turning to imports. Solco currently stocks almost 90% domestic material, and in a time when manufacturing accounts for less than 9% of the country's economy, it is very important to Solco that they continue to support the American worker.
The expo was held at historical Fort Totten's Officers' Club Castle, now home to the Bayside Historical Society, in Bayside, Queens. Aside from being a former U.S. Army installation, Fort Totten currently maintains a U.S. Army Reserve presence, as well as being home to the New York Fire Department fire training academy. The patriotic venue, along with a menu of traditional American food, Uncle Sam, and autographs signed by Ed Kranepool of the New York Mets, helped to contribute to the theme of America First.
In addition to giving some of the country's greatest manufacturers the opportunity to celebrate their history, Solco's America First Expo also provided incredible prizes to raffle-winning customers. The prizes, all manufactured in the United States, included a barbecue grill, rolling luggage and even a lease on a Chevrolet Traverse.
Representatives from close to fifty American manufacturers attended the expo to tell their stories to dozens of New York's most reputable contractors and plumbers. The event was a tremendous success, highlighting some of the nation's most prominent plumbing and HVAC manufacturers, such as Kohler, General Electric, Charlotte Pipe, and many others. The opportunity for these manufacturers, who are based all over the United States, to talk to the very people who use their products every day, was invaluable. It is for this reason that Solco plans to host its second annual America First Expo in 2011.
Solco Plumbing Supply is a 50-year-old plumbing supply house with locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. They have been involved in some of New York City's most prestigious building jobs.
