American Brothers Establish Influential Chinese School in China
GUILIN, China, April 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Fried, 24, and his older brother Bradford have been at the forefront of providing study in China opportunities since establishing the Chinese Language Institute (CLI) in early 2009.
Expanding to include 18 Chinese teachers and managers, a newly renovated five-story learning center in China, and over 100 students in its first two years, the Fried brothers have surpassed their organization's initial goals and expect to continue growing as global awareness of China's increasing political and economic clout accelerates.
With students from some of the world's most prestigious universities – Harvard, Columbia, Georgetown, Oxford, and Yale among them – CLI has secured its reputation as a rising star in cross-cultural learning. A February 2011 feature story in The Washington Post further solidified CLI's growing importance in the world of international education.
A Political Science major at Virginia Tech, Robert's developing interest in global affairs took him to China where he studied at Beijing's Tsinghua University. It was from his Beijing dorm room at the age of 22 that Robert founded CLI.
On the ground, Robert combined his business vision with Bradford's network of contacts and extensive knowledge of educational systems, and, together, the brothers breathed life into CLI, a full-range educational services organization for Chinese language and culture studies.
The idea caught on. CLI now offers "short and long-term intensive Chinese programs, China study abroad opportunities for university students, academic seminars throughout all of China, business training and internships for up-and-coming professionals, one-on-one online Chinese lessons, and English-taught courses covering topics ranging from history and economics to political science, cross-cultural communication, and international relations."
Now highly proficient in Mandarin Chinese, Robert is the Principle Partner and Managing Director of his rapidly expanding CLI. The organization has collected over 200 applications to date and has enrolled students from the United States, Canada, Chile, Israel, Slovakia, the UK, Spain, France, Germany and Australia.
With several new China tours and seminars planned in conjunction with its affiliate universities for this upcoming summer, the organization shows no signs of losing its momentum. In an era of uncertain economic and political climates, the Fried brothers' CLI is building bridges.
