At AMN, she will spearhead the Center for Professional Advancement, the organizing structure for Workforce Futures and Academic Progression programs, and a foundation for research and grants. Since originally joining in January as a consultant to develop strategy for education programs aimed at new roles needed in the health system, Dr. Fischer will now be responsible for the continuing execution of AMN's strategies related to clinician education and training, including consulting with clients to identify emerging workforce needs and shaping AMN's education-based thought leadership.
"Brenda brings a balanced entrepreneurial, academic, and service perspective with an energized outcomes focus," said Marcia Faller, PhD, RN, and Chief Clinical Officer of AMN Healthcare. "She has successfully developed collaborative thinking partnerships with the goal of advancing comprehensive transformation in healthcare."
In May, she was appointed a Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation of the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and also serves on the committee of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, that develops the organization's three-year strategic plan. She has also served on the boards of the University of San Diego, Hahn School of Nursing Alumni as well as the California State University Institute of Palliative Care, Advanced Practice Nursing Graduate Program at San Marcos.
Prior to joining AMN, Dr. Fischer founded the Center for Nursing Excellence, a think tank and action center at Palomar Health, where she spent six years. Among her service specialties and academic research focus are strategic transformation, positive organizational scholarship, complex health populations, healthcare delivery models, and workforce planning innovation.
Her achievements include the Award for Excellence in Pain Management and Palliative Care Leadership by the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative and the Patriot Award by the Department of the Defense Support of the Guard and the Reserve.
"After first falling in love with AMN at last year's Healthcare Workforce Summit, I truly hope to bring my vision to life in this new capacity and confirm AMN's position as the thought leader to advance education, practice, and research in healthcare," Dr. Fischer said.
