An Amazing Day for Detroit! More Than 100 Events, Hundreds of Organizations, Thousands of People Will Participate in the Fourth Annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day, Saturday, August 7
DETROIT, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than 100 events, involving hundreds of community organizations and thousands of people, will be held on Saturday, August 7 to showcase what residents are doing to create a better community as part of the fourth annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day.
Events and activities will take place across the entire city, stretching from the Detroit riverfront to Eight Mile Road.
Events will be held from sunup to sundown and conclude at the ARISE Detroit! Renewing the Village celebration in Hart Plaza with the performance of the song "The Great New Detroit Renaissance" by the James Tatum Foundation for the Arts.
This remarkable display of community and spirit will include:
The Detroit Tiger Hometown Baseball Championships, with more than 600 boys and girls playing games at Jayne Field in Detroit; construction of a new playground for city children by the YMCA; International Institute cultural center tours of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Museum of African American History, main branch of the Detroit Public Library and the Detroit Science Center; a Highland Park book donation drive; parades; beautification projects by community groups, block clubs and churches; a major recycling event by the AARP; library events and the tearing down of a vacant home by Motor City Blightbusters volunteers..
In addition, suburban churches will partner with the Ravendale Community group to host a community resources fair, and Habitat for Humanity of Detroit volunteers will construct new housing on the east side of Detroit.
