An Open Letter From Bridal Show Producers International to ABC's 20/20

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Jan. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Bridal Show Producers International (BSPI) would like to speak out on behalf of all the wedding industry professionals whose businesses were besmirched by association in an episode of ABC's 20/20, which aired on January 18, 2013.

As an international organization representing bridal show producers around the globe, who in turn work with hundreds of thousands of brides, grooms, and wedding vendors year in and year out, we are saddened and frustrated with 20/20's clearly biased reporting on our industry. Our organization and the membership it represents work very hard to set and exceed standards of excellence in the bridal industry.

BSPI is not alone in this goal. The American Disc Jockey Association, the International Special Events Society, Meeting Professionals International, the National Association of Wedding Professionals, the National Association of Catering Executives, and many others strive to ensure that wedding couples have the perfect wedding they've dreamed about, while providing training, support, and advice to the businesses that can help the couples do that.

Unfortunately, 20/20's producers presented what we feel was a strongly biased report that did not adequately represent the thousands of wedding businesses that have served their communities for decades, choosing instead to focus on scaremongering tactics and the anecdotal evidence provided by a very limited set of biased interviews.

We strongly encourage ABC and the producers of 20/20 to consider the impact its report will have on thousands of honest, hardworking small businesses around the country who have chosen to make their businesses part of a couple's very special day, and whose misfortune it was to be grossly underrepresented and, frankly, disparaged as a whole because of the actions of a very few, in 20/20's recent show. And we further encourage 20/20 to provide brides and grooms with a look at the positive side of the industry, by taking the time to speak with wedding industry leaders whose goal it is to ensure that brides and grooms have the perfect wedding, while supporting the businesses that have the passion and dedication to make that happen.
