RESTON, Va., Aug. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- AnaVation, a leading provider of intelligence collection and processing, analytical systems and big data infrastructure solutions to Federal Law Enforcement, Intelligence Community (IC), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Research and Development (R&D) organizations in the United States Federal Government, announced the successful augmentation of its internship program, which grew from 3 students in 2016 to 7 students in 2017.
The program recruits rising college juniors and seniors from schools such as the University of Maryland, Penn State, Christopher Newport University, James Madison University, George Mason University, and Virginia Tech. This year, students were separated into two groups and given real-life technical challenges to solve as a team using a variety of data sources and application tools.
"AnaVation gave me the ability to work with many field experts and to observe various industry practices and business intelligence tools from maintaining our project timeline in JIRA to learning Amazon Web Services," said Sara Roselius, a Penn State – Altoona student. "I am grateful that my time spent doing research and development of big data allowed me to gain a real world insight into the industry profession."
The intern teams were each assigned an AnaVation employee as a technical sponsor who helped guide the problem-solving process. Students also consulted regularly with the senior AnaVation leadership team and attended various lunch and learn sessions on new and emerging technologies.

"Being able to apply the skills obtained over the past years of university studies and see them in action gave me the motivation I need to finish my education strong, as I was able to understand the connections that textbook problems do not adequately display."
