'Angels' visit Toledo central city for door-to-door giveaway

TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Young people will take their generosity to the streets at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 24 when they visit 151 homes bearing gifts. The new community service organization BOSS (Building Our Support System) Angels will launch its first charity assignment when free "love packages" containing household supplies are given to elderly and low-income residents of the McClinton Nunn Homes, 425 Nebraska Avenue near Collingwood.

Each package will include 10 items, such as toilet tissue, paper towels and air freshener, and will be provided to homes for additional support during the last weeks of summer at a time when many have spent their monthly budgets, and some parents will feel a money crunch from back-to-school costs. BOSS Angels is an independently operated program designed to enhance youth, physically, mentally, spiritually, and financially, through community service, says founder and CEO, Rev. Slim Lake.

"The goal is to prepare them for work and jobs in their neighborhood, but we also want them to experience the high of giving," says Rev. Lake. "Giving is one of the tools to build their support system by showing good will to their neighbors."

The 50 to 60 youth, who will wear black or white t-shirts bearing the words "BOSS Angels," along with a biblical scripture, are ages 11 and older. Members of the organization earn privileges and rewards by attending weekly meetings and completing community service assignments.

Anita Lopez, candidate for Toledo mayor, will make an appearance at the giveaway to encourage the youth.
