SITKA, Alaska, July 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Angling Unlimited has discovered the best way to connect grandparents and their grandchildren: two fishing rods, the Alaskan wilderness and a sea full of silver salmon. The charter fishing company, based out of Sitka in Southeast Alaska, has created an event that offers grandparents and their grandkids an opportunity to bond across the generations through learning and world-class sport fishing.

"The waters outside of Sitka are prime for peak silver salmon in late August making it a perfect time to take kids fishing," said Angling Unlimited co-owner Captain Tom Ohaus. "The silver action keeps them interested in between bites from king salmon, halibut, rockfish and lingcod."
Beyond Angling Unlimited's usual emphasis on a light-tackle hands-on fishing method, learning will be a major component of the "Bonding across the Generations" event. While on the water, Angling Unlimited's experts will teach kids important foundational skills for fishing including leader and knot tying, filleting the fish and the use of electronics to spot fish and the GPS to find them again.
Additionally, the captains and crew will host an evening reception each day to go over the day's action and lessons, answer questions and help the kids refine their newfound skills.
"The grandparents event was inspired by guests who have told us they would like the opportunity to introduce their grandkids to fishing in a low-pressure environment. While there will be plenty of catching fish, the emphasis is on the experience and learning," co-owner Captain Chuck McNamee said.
Guests will arrive on August 24, spend the next three days fishing and learning, and depart Sitka on the 28th. Price, including lodging, breakfast and lunch, transportation to and from the airport is $1750 per person.
