Animal Dermatology Clinic Announces Expansion of Residency Program and Welcomes Six New Residents in the US and Abroad

IRVINE, Calif., July 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Animal Dermatology Clinic, world-renowned for their advancement in veterinary dermatology including ear diseases and allergies, announced today an expansion to their teaching hospital by welcoming six new doctors to their residency program.

Animal Dermatology Clinic (ADC) was the first private practice approved for a residency program by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Over the last 30 years, there have been more than twenty board certified veterinary dermatologists that have successfully completed residencies through ADC's formal program.

In order to achieve board certification in dermatology, a licensed veterinarian must first complete a three-year residency program, pass a rigorous two-day exam, and undergo an extensive interview process. With only a few hundred diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in the world, applicants that are invited to interview with ADC's Residency and Research Committees, must stand-out, as the interview is a critical part of the residency application process.

Following the interview process, applicants will have an opportunity to meet with current ADC residents to discuss everyday experiences of what to expect in the program and to see first-hand what the culture is like.

Upon acceptance, residents are assigned a mentor and spend the majority of their time receiving cases throughout their clinical training while reviewing and performing diagnostics, providing therapy and following up on cases. Residents will also have the opportunity to join mentors for exposure to exotic species as well, perform consultations along with intradermal skin testing and allergen specific immunotherapy.

Residents attend monthly training programs that include structure/function lectures and journal discussions. Histopathology training is conducted at the Indianapolis, IN clinic with Dr. Lori Thompson who provides derm path consulting for Antech and Dr. Wayne Rosenkrantz out of the Tustin, CA clinic.
