PEDERNALES, Ecuador, April 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dayko, a white Labrador retriever, is a hero after saving seven people from the aftermath of last week's earthquake in Ecuador. Dayko has been working as a rescue dog over three years for the Ibara Fire Service, and they reported on social media he passed due to a "massive coronary myocardial infarction and acute respiratory failure" as a result of exhaustion. He died after spending days combing the rubble searching for survivors in the wake of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Ecuador last week. The earthquake itself took over 350 lives, and will cost billions in reconstruction. President Correa said the impact on economic growth "could be huge." Thankfully, this brave dog was on the scene to help save these lives before sacrificing his own.
