Among the highlights of this year's show will be:
- An exhibition of postcards depicting "New York's Family Businesses" This exhibit brings to life the small businesses that serve New Yorkers. Mom & Pop businesses have always thrived in the shadow of the retailing giants and franchised outlets. Walk down any city street and you will see the family business storefronts that are the lifeblood of New York City commerce.
- Hy Mariampolski will present an illuminating lecture on The Joy of Sets: Illustrated Postcards of New York City and Their Artists. Leading artists & illustrators often had their best work produced on postcards, an avidly-consumed visual medium of the early 20th century, and many sets of NYC-related, superbly illustrated postcards will be on sale. Mr. Mariampolski will illustrate the genre through his own extensive collection. Sunday, May 22 at 10 AM.
"Postcards are that rare commodity, affordable contemporaneous images from the past 100 years," says Joan Kay, Metro Club president. "While some postcards are quite valuable, many are still inexpensive, yet you won't find the images on them anywhere. Whatever topic, destination or personality you love, you'll find the rarest early images of it at the International Postcard Show."
The Metropolitan Postcard Club of New York City was founded in 1946 and is the oldest continuously-run postcard club in the United States. Members receive discounted admission to the Show.
