ISTANBUL, July 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ --
- First Hydropower Plant of Akenerji Commissioned in Trabzon
Akenerji, one of the Turkish leading private power producers, commissioned its first Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) in Turkish Black Sea province of Trabzon as an investment of the company along with its target of attaining source diversity in energy production.
Akocak HPP, which was constructed at Arakli-Karadere basin in Trabzon at a cost of 124 million dollars, is the first fruit of Akenerji's investments on renewable energy sources in the last four years... Akenerji plans to commission 4 other HPPs with a total installed capacity of about 205 MW in different regions of Turkey this year.
Akocak HPP, which is the result of unyielding efforts against fierce natural conditions, represents the biggest step taken by Akenerji towards transition to renewable energy.
Akenerji General Manager Ahmet Umit Danisman said they concentrated on this type of investments to attain diversity of resources in production and to add value to the country's economy by developing renewable energy resources and Akenerji has become much stronger thanks to the partnership founded in 2009 with CEZ of Czech Republic which has many affiliate companies across 12 European countries and is the leader energy company of the Central and Eastern Europe.
Danisman said they continued their investments on 8 hydroelectricity plants with a total capacity of 373 MW, in addition to the current installed capacity of 373 MW. "After completing our acceptance procedures at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, we started commercial generation of energy at Akocak HPP Project whose construction had started back in August 2006. Akocak HPP is of great significance to us also due to its being the first fruit of our HPP investments that have been going on for 4 years. This year, we will commission our Uluabat, Burc, Bulam and Feke 2 power plants which jointly have a total installed capacity of about 205 MW. This will be yet another giant step towards providing renewable energy. Thanks to these power plants to be commissioned subsequently, we will have prevented carbon emissions at an amount of 646 thousand tons, which is equivalent to 31 million trees, each year" he said.
Akocak Hydroelectric Power Plant has 81 MW installed capacity and will produce 257.44 GwH of electricity per year, which makes it Akenerji's second biggest HPP investment after Uluabat HPP with 100 MW installed capacity.
